Queen Catherine sat at the right hand of her husband at the head table looking down at the festivities below. Kaitlin-Rose Jackson and Nathan Brown had just been married mere hours ago, and this celebration was the result of their happiness. It seemed only yesterday Kaitlin had confessed to her about her affection for Nathan, and now they were husband and wife. Catherine was very surprised that Nathan had settled upon a bride, even though he would have been married anyway. He actually seemed to... having fun? Settled? It was odd to see him like this. The frivolous boy that had always managed to flirt with every young girl from age twelve to sixteen and never higher, was now married. Probably going to have a lot of children to. Kaitlin was strong enough, and Nathan too. They both loved each other as well so that would help.
As she looked down at the party, the men twirling their women around in their colorful attire, the older members of court drinking wine at their tables, chatting with each other. Women whispering to each other, trying to pretend like they were only smiling politely. Catherine could see, and had seen, it all. She knew court like the back of her hand. Like the portrait of her face. Like the way she read what her husband was thinking simply by looking at the turn of his lips, the look in his eye. She would never say it nor give any indication that she did, but she knew much more than anyone gave her credit for.
She was now dressed in a bright red outfit, her skirts long and her figure tightly bound and as beautiful as ever. Her hair was straight and let loose but she still wore a little hat on her head, as all women should. She turned to her husband, a pleasent smile on her face, "Would you care to dance one more time before I go? I'm getting awfully tired and expect I'll go in to sleep soon." She was quietly hoping that Andrew would go with her after the danced, but she could never ask him. That was his job. But she could mention it, and still give him the satisfaction of choosing.

Andrew hadn't been paying as much attention to the two, whom they were now celebrated, at least not as much as his wife appearently had done. All he had noticed was that Nathan seemed to be a good husband for Kaitlin. Whenever a marriage was celebrated in the castle, it reminded him of his and Catherines marriage. Sometimes it felt like it had been a hundred years ago, at other times it felt like it was yesteday. For now he had felt like it was yesteday.
He looked at the beauty beside him. She was pretty in red. She told him she was tired, and wanted to have a last dance before she left. Andrew would most likely leave with her. He didn't want her to go alone. Why? Because he had got a strange feeling lately. That someone kept watching them, even in their sleep. He was affraid that a spy had got into the court, and was now planning horrible things to harm someone. Andrew had no idea why someone would spy on them. He had even less idea of why someone would harm them, but one thing was sure. If he didn't do something to stop it, it would happen. He had convinced himself it would. Therefore he had already spoken to his right hand, Luquin. Andrew had told him to keep his eagle eyes open and his ears sharpened. Andrew was sure that if someone could prevent what he feared was going to happen, it would be Luquin - the royal familys private assassin and bodyguard.
Andrew had not yet spoken of his fears to his wife, but he would as soon as no one could hear them. He tried to smile and look confident, but he was almost sure that Catherine had noticed his uncomfort. "Indeed we shall dance, love." he said and stood up, and reached out his hand to take hers.

Catherine was queen, quite obviously. She had trained from birth to watch anything, everything, but especially everyone. And she knew the names of everyone in court. Their families. How much money they had. They history. And most of the time, their future. She was not a seer, she simply could tell where people wanted to go. What their plans were. And how they expected to get there. And most of the time, she, but mostly Andrew, controlled that.
So Catherine could easily see that her husband was troubled by something. What it was, she had no idea, but she would find out. He might tell her, but eventually, whether he did or not, she would know what it was that made her husband so wary and careful and bothered on a day like today.
Of course, she would never let on to the fact that she could see past his cover up court face. Catherine smiled, and as Andrew stood and held out his hand, she stood after him, her own smile true, took his hand and went out onto the floor with him. A lovely bright song started up, and they began to dance. Just an easy one, nothing of pompous show-offy status. Just a simple waltz like step. Then she decided to confront him. He could choose not to reply.
"May I ask what is troubling you, or shall I wait until we're alone?" She said quietly into his ear, he smile never fading for a second.

She knew. She knew he was worried about something, and he wanted to tell her. But how could he rest asured that no one would hear them? Even if they were in their room, kept safe by the towerguards. Andrew had a hard time thrusting people those days. The only ones he had been thrusting lately were Catherine and Luquin. "I... I have to tell you something Catherine." He said, trying to not sound too worried. He kept staring out on everyone else in the crowd, he had only looked into Catherines pretty eyes once, while they were dancing.
He slightly shook his head, tried to get of the thoughts and looked at Catherine. "It can wait though," he said and smiled. Andrew had allways been glad, that he felt that Catherine was aware of everything happenning inside the walls. He didn't have much understanding for what was happening between different persons - what a weak side to have. Luckily he had Catherine.

He knew that she knew. What a confusing life this was. But Catherine smiled at him, her gaze never lingering from his face, though his eyes were anywhere but on her. Andrew needed to tell her something? What in the world was that about? And what could be so important that he could not speak to her here, with at least ten feet around them of free space. But it must have been important, and she was about to say something, but he spoke first. It could wait. Alright then, and so could Catherine. She did not talk back to him.
The dance was ending, the final steps and twirls of their partners were slowing down, and the music was coming to a quiet end. Everyone bowed or curtsied to their partners, and it was over. Some people sat back down, while others continued with the next dance which was already starting. Catherine curtsied to Andrew, then stood up, facing up to him, and spoke, "I am going up to my room, if that is alright. Will you not come along too? You look tired. And it would make you so much more comfortable to be out of this crowd."

Tired? Yes, yes he was tired. He hadn't had much sleep lately, due to the thoughts troubling his mind. Luquin was better to find out, what in the world was going on - for Andrew wouldn't be worrying for no reason. How well she knew him. Getting away from the crowd would make him feel way better. He didn't like, in fact he had never liked, big crowds of people. Luquin weren't there, at least Andrew hadn't seen him - but he was supposed to come to the ball at some time. He would most likely show up, after Andrew had left along with his love, Catherine.
"I shall go with you." He said, and took her hand, waiting for her to start walk. If anyone asked why them why they would leave already, Catherine would hopefully answer, she was abseloutly the best of the two of them to speak to other people. Plus, she had always seemed like she knew what to say to everyone.

Catherine smiled sweetly to her husband in a somewhat I wish you felt better but we must keep up appearances manner, but I love you darling and I won't smile like this for much longer way, that she knew ever so well. She took her husbands hand, so happy that he chose to come with her. Her duty as queen of course was mostly to make her King happy, to please him, to do what he told, and to never let his eyes wander to anyone else but her in these circumstances. If she could transfix him with her looks, with the way she looked at him, with the way she walked and spoke, then he wouldn't be so distracted. It was much harder to lure him toward her tonight. She knew he loved her very much, and she loved him just the same, but it was important that he not forget her. For her own sake. It was simply what had to be done.
Catherine held his arm firmly and comfortably, and guided him toward the door slowly, smiling at those she passed in a nice, quiet way. One of her ladies stopped her and asked why they were heading to bed so early. "Oh," Catherine said with a laugh, "I'm having to drag My Lord," meaning Andrew in a proper manner, "to sleep before we both fall over. It's been such a long night, and with so much celebration I'm surprised how anyone can stand up anymore. Have a lovely night." The girl curtsied to her and nodded along as if she actually cared and wasn't simply being polite, and Catherine continued up to their room.
