Yet again, he found himself at the King's beck and call, sitting in the King's parlor, alone at the moment, mindlessly reading a book that had been left on the windowsill. He was not really reading, he just needed something to keep his mind off of everything else. Which was nothing. Things were so quiet lately, so calm, so right and peaceful. It was annoying. He could do with a bit of histarics, chaos, and dramatics. Not to much, but this silence was ridiculous. This compelte silence...
Yet again he found himself drifting into the usual thoughts of everything and anything. Where he might find a good wife, who might be the one to up his status around here a bit. What the court was planning for the summer season and early spring. The usual thoughts of a man who was bored out of his mind and needed a bit of entertaining.
Anyone would do. Noone in specifics. Anyone at all. Anyone who would be interesting to talk to, man or woman, though women were always lovely to be around. They were always smiling, always being prim and complimentary, never letting a sharp word leave their lips. Yes, a woman would be nice. Not a man. Goodness no. Not a man. Men enjoyed to boast to much. He should know, he did it all the time. But he could do it all he wanted! He just didn't want to put up with it himself.

Kaitlin Rose walked into the Royal Apartments after seeing that her queen was fitted for her dress for the evening. She had always dreamed of having many beautiful gowns to wear. Ones with diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds embedded into them. She sighed as she turned to look out the window. Her sister was seeing to dressing her today. She apparently was not trusted enough yet to dress her majesty. Not that she really wanted to. Servants were forced to dress themselves each day and yet the queen, the ruler of the lands, could not. It was confusing to her. She shrugged at her own thought and turned away from the window. The sky was gray and the scenery bleak. Winter had come and destroyed all possible beauty of their land. That's when her gaze fell upon a boy sitting in a chair in the same room. How could she have not seen him? Was she just that wrapped up in her thoughts?
Kaitlin looked at the boy. No, she couldn't call him that, he seemed much to wise and had that mature aura around him. He was indeed a man. Very handsome with his long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He had a strong face with dominant features. All together she decided he was a very appealing man to look at. Causally she walked over. "Hello, my name is Kaitlin Rose, I have noticed you alone and wondered if you would like some company?" She smiled softly and sat down across from him. She had to be ready if the queen needed anything. If she was kept waiting punishment would soon follow. From her majesty and Kaitlin's very own sister. They had never really gotten along and never planned to. Kaitlin had her own mind, but usually kept it to herself. If a woman spoke her mind she was a disgrace to society. That could not happen.

Nathan heard the little, light footsteps that could be noone but a girl or lady, and he raised his head slightly to see who had entered the room. He noticed at once that it was in fact a Lady of the Queen. Kaitlin-Rose Jackson. The youngest of the two daughters in the Jackson family. Yes, he had heard much of the eldest, but not much at all from the youngest.
She seemed to be quite preoccupied with her thoughts. Nathan watched her closely. She was beautiful, quite fair with lovely eyes. And her figure was one of which every lady in this castle would kill themselves for. His eyes wandered over her, taking in every part of her. Then he came to his senses. He could not think of this. He must remain a gentleman. That was a problem that he had always faced. He had to remain a gentleman, and never lust for anyone until he had a wife. That was what he had to remember. But that law flickered past him every once in a while, and he found it less appealing than the body of a gorgeous woman, no matter who she may be, in front of him. Anyway, he focused on her face, watching her and trying to look as though he had patient concern for her, not a lustful desire for her. Now. This moment. Wherever. However. But now. He let out a sigh and focused on her face.
She turned and came toward him. He stood and bowed slightly to her, and waited for her to sit before he sat again. "I would appreciate your company very much Lady Kaitlin." He said, trying to keep his eyes from wandering. Nevertheless, they did anyway. He internally shook himself, then said, "How are you today?"

Kaitlin sat, her eyes assessing her company. She knew that it wasn't very lady like but she didn't honestly care. She was away from the Queen and her sister. Her eyes paused on his. They were beautiful. She turned them down to her own hands. She was becoming the age that would be suitable to start looking for a husband. She didn't like the idea very much. She still wanted to play the field. Still, the gentleman sitting next to her wouldn't be a bad choice. She knew that if she looked up he would catch the hint of lust in her eye. It was always easy to point out. "I am fair, sir." she answered pushing the thoughts of him from her head. She looked back up and her heart fluttered nervously. He was extremely good looking.
Kaitlin glanced out the window into the gray cold sky. She looked at the brown grass and dead flowers. They had once been so beautiful. Then the season of death had come. It killed all things good. Colors, flowers, the lush green grass, and her happiness. The sun rarely shone and was constantly covered with clouds. The night before rain had fallen. A cold freezing rain that made work just that much harder. She sighed and turned her attention back to her company. "My inquiries to your name? How do you fair today?" she asked politely.

"I must say that I am perfectly alright. Well enough, I suppose. It's the weather that is bringing my spirits down. I suppose that is what the whole court is feeling now that winter is upon us and the breezes of autumn are turning into gail force winds that send rain and snow our way." He smiled bitterly, annoyed with the weather even more that he was talking about it. But looking at Lady Kaitlin it seemed as though she was feeling the same way. Of course she was smiling and being pretty and polite. But she was a girl. She was supposed to act that way. Yet Nathan could see plainly that she was not very happy herself. Maybe it was due to the weather. Or not. He did not want to pry, but he was curious. That was the problem with court life! Everyone put on an act. Everywhere you went, everyone ran through the motions of a joyful court experiance, a joyful marriage, joyful events, smiling women, and intelligent, strong men, being polite and curteous when the castle was set on fire or the rain was howling out of doors. It was all an act, from day to day. "I don't mean to pry, my Lady, but does something bother you other than this weather? You just seem to be full of thought and I can not help but intrude."

Kaitlin's gaze fell onto the scene outside the window behind Nathan. Her eyes were heavy some type of grief or depression. Winter was always her least favorite season but now with this talk of marriage made it even worse. She didn't want to think about it but the thought was always there. She sighed sadly and her burdened dark eyes met Nathan's. She wanted to tell him everything but it was not right for a lady to do so. Without thinking she slumped back into her seat. She took down her hair made up in a loose bun and let the locks of hair fall over her shoulders. Her shoulders were slumped and her dress now had some wrinkles in it. What did she care? She hated putting on this act. "I am sorry to be such bad company, sir." she said her voice heavy. "My mind has been full of thought lately and it has made me sad." She didn't know if he wanted to hear her whole sob story. She didn't want to worse company than she already was.
Kaitlin knew she was really crossing the line of how to behave in front of a man. They were never to speak of their feelings, never slump, keep their hair up, and so many other things. Rules, rules, rules. She hated the rules. They restricted her from so much. But if she dared to step out of line she could easily be sent away and shunned from society. "I don't wish to burden you with my problems. Seeing that I've already broken almost every rule in the book now, I don't have a problem in telling you. It's just I don't know if you honestly want to hear it." She looked back into his eyes. They were gorgeous and she could get lost in them easily. Her gaze traveled down his body again and she was caught looking at something she really shouldn't. Quickly she turned her gaze back to the gray scene outside.

Well, this was a tad... odd. She had taken her hair down. Right in front him. In the King and Queen's royal chambers, for that matter! He looked away for a moment, trying to pretend he had not noticed her suddenly changed posture and manner. But then he realized she had meant to do so. She still looked as beautiful as before when he turned back. That hair, that face. Her neck was as long as a swans, but not to thin. Not huge either. She was perfectly proportioned.
"You are not bad company, my Lady. And I do not wish for you to be sad." Suddenly there was the gentleman like trait sweeping over him, and he felt sorry for the girl. He had no idea why, but she looked utterly depressed, poor soul. And Nathan wanted to do something about it, to make her feel better. He stood and went over to her, holding out his hand, the other properly posistioned behind his back.
"Come with me Kaitlin. You can talk to me. But not here. We shall take a walk together and you musn't worry about me thinking you are bad company. My only worry is that you have to keep all of this inside your head with no one to say it to." He waited patiently. "There's no reason to sulk by yourself. You should at least have something to do and someone to do it with."

Kaitlin's big brown eyes looked up and met Nathan's. He was holding his hand out to her and speaking to her. She didn't catch much of it, however. She was too busy getting lost in those amazing eyes. He was a handsome devil! The hair, the eyes, the body....she stopped herself there. It was not proper to think about such things. But it was oh-so-hard when you had a man like that standing in front of you! She took his hand and stood. She put her hair back up in a simple bun and let her arms fall to her side. That was when the shoulder of her dress fell below her shoulder. She didn't dare to meet his eyes. What would he do?
Kaitlin was used to using this trick to gain some physical from the men she liked. It worked well most of the time. Slowly her eyes met Nathan's again. There was a trace of a smirk on her face. There was something about his man that captivated her. She wanted him. She was compelled towards him. He was muscular and so handsome. "I would enjoy your company very much." she said, her voice soft and a bit seductive. She couldn't help it. Boys were always on her mind. This one in particular.

Nathan's eyes traced over her. Across her collarbone to her shoulders down her graceful arms. That skin... her skin was like milk. Soft and somewhat pale but beautiful and flawless. She was easy to look at, and he did so gratefully. He turned his eyes downcast for a moment, and when he looked back toward her she was... she was flirting with him. Silently. Ever so silently, but never the less she was using those eyes to captivate him. And that turned his attention to her, and worked easily. She was good, she was. Her sleeve fell from her shoulder in such a manner as if it were a part of her body that Kaitlin-Rose was controlling. Despite himself, he smirked and looked around quickly, making sure that they were still alone.
"Stop that, you naughty little thing, before someone walks in and sees us like this. We must remain completely composed until we are sure we're alone. And then you may continue flirting mercillesly with me." He took her hand with his right, so that his arm reached across his body to reach her hand. He took his left hand and placed it on the small of her back, and gently, but firmly guided her from the room. "Let us go and be together in a more private manner."
